High School Technical Theatre Internship Program
The Summer Stock Stage High School Technical Theatre Internship Program is a hands-on, immersive opportunity for high school students who are passionate about technical theatre and eager to learn at a professional level. Interns work side-by-side with paid designers, technicians, and production staff on a full season of musical theatre at the Butler Arts and Events Center.
This program is designed for students who want to explore careers in stage management, lighting, sound, scenic construction, wardrobe, and backstage operations—while contributing meaningfully to live productions seen by thousands of audience members.
What Interns Will Do
Technical Interns are fully integrated into the production process and may gain experience in:
- Lighting, sound, and microphone systems
- Scenic construction and load-ins
- Wardrobe, props, and backstage operations
- Run crew and stage management support
- Professional rehearsal and performance environments
Interns are mentored by experienced professionals and held to the same standards of excellence as our paid production teams.
Flexible Summer Options
Student may choose the level of commitment that works best for them:
Session 1 – May 23 – June 28
Session 2 – June 29 – August 9
(Accommodations can be made around school commitments at the beginning and end of the summer)
During each session interns will work on one educational production, one high school production, and one professional production. Interns can also have the option to participate in both sessions and work on our full season.
