Summer Stock Stage presents Shrek the Musical July 20-24!

Indianapolis, IN– Summer Stock Stage will present Shrek the Musical at Ayres Auditorium at Park Tudor School July 20-24.  Wednesday preview and Thursday through Saturday evening performances are at 7:30 pm.  Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 2:30 pm. More than 40 of the most talented students from central Indiana have been rehearsing with director Emily Ristine Holloway, music director Jeanne Bowling, and choreographer Cherri Jaffee, to mount this fully-staged and orchestrated production.   These students, ages 13-19, come from 25 different public, private, and charter schools from throughout central Indiana.  They will be joined by younger students from Summer Stock Stage Academy who will be featured in smaller roles. These are some of the best musical theater performers in the area.  Many plan to continue their theater studies in college, while others have entirely different plans.  All come together in a professional, collaborative environment to produce outstanding theater each summer.

Shrek the Musical – Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek the Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure featuring all new songs and a sidesplitting book. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage, and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.

“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek…” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand…and his name is Shrek.

This irreverently fun and family friendly musical runs July 20-24.  Wednesday preview performance is at 7:30 pm.  Evening performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and matinees are Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 pm.
