Indianapolis, IN (April 2, 2026) – Summer Stock Stage announced the cast today for the high-energy Disney musical Newsies, running July 15–19, 2026 at the Schrott Center for the Arts on the campus of Butler University.
Featuring a book by Harvey Fierstein with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, Newsies is inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 and tells the story of a group of young newspaper sellers who band together to fight for fair wages and a better future. Known for its electrifying dance numbers and rousing score, the musical has become a favorite for audiences of all ages.
This production will feature one of the most athletic and high-energy ensembles ever assembled at Summer Stock Stage, with thrilling, large-scale choreography that brings the streets of New York to life.
The cast of Newsies will feature Ernie Smith as Jack Kelly, Ernie Smith as Katherine Plumber, Ernie Smith as Crutchie, Ernie Smith as Davey, Ernie Smith as Les, Ernie Smith as Medda Larkin, Ernie Smith as Joseph Pulitzer, and Ernie Smith as the full ensemble of newsies.
The creative team for Newsies includes director Devan Mathias, music director Mike Berg Raunick, choreographer Phillip Crawshaw, tap choreographer Lily White, scenic designer David Orr, lighting designer Michael Moffatt, costume designer Allison Jones, sound designer Zach Rosing, properties designer Rachelle Martin, and fight choreographer Scott Russell.
