INDIANAPOLIS- More than 40 talented high school students from 20 public, private and charter schools in central Indiana will perform a fully-staged and orchestrated production of “Urinetown.” The Summer Stock Stage (SSS) performance runs June 28 through July 1 at Park Tudor School’s Ayres Auditorium. Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
SSS is a premier educational theater group that provides students ages 13 to 19 with an extraordinary performing arts experience.
“These students are some of the best musical theater performers in the area, and many will continue their theater studies in college,” said SSS artistic director Emily Ristine Holloway. “It is inspiring to see them come together in a professional, collaborative environment to produce an outstanding show.”
The Tony Award-winning “Urinetown” is a sidesplitting send-up of greed, love, revolution and musical theater in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a dystopian city, a terrible water shortage has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities controlled by a malevolent company – until a hero decides to plan a revolution.
“Urinetown” is co-directed by Holloway and Charles Goad with musical direction by Michael Raunick and choreography by Brandon Comer, Mariel Greenlee, and Lily Wessel. Tickets are on sale at www.summerstockstage.com and cost $14 for the Thursday preview performance and $18 for all other shows.
