Eclipse presents “Violet” May 30 – June 15

INDIANAPOLIS – Eclipse, the emerging artists program of Summer Stock Stage (SSS), will present the contemporary musical “Violet” May 30 – June 15 on the Russell Stage at the Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre.

SSS, a premier educational theater group, provides students ages 13 to 19 with an extraordinary performing arts experience. In 2017, SSS introduced Eclipse, an offshoot for young professionals and college students from central Indiana. The performers, who are SSS alumni, have the opportunity to showcase their talent in challenging musical theater productions.

“We believe providing professional opportunities for performers who are just embarking on their careers helps attract and retain emerging artists in our community,” said artistic director Emily Ristine Holloway. “There’s a need for this type of work in the Indianapolis market.”

“Violet” will feature performers who graduated from central Indiana high schools and attend or attended seven different colleges.   With a score from Tony-winning composer Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by the acclaimed Brian Crawley, this moving story will take your breath away.

As a girl, Violet was struck by a wayward axe blade when her father was chopping wood, leaving her with a visible scar across her face. With enough money finally saved she’s traveling across the Deep South in 1964 towards a miracle – the healing touch of a TV evangelist who will make her beautiful. Although she may not succeed in having the scar on her face healed, Violet may be able to repair her deeper scars.

Tickets for the 10 shows are $20 for opening weekend and $30 for all other performances. Click here to purchase tickets or visit  https://summerstockstage.com/
